Creativity + Magic

Magic (with or without the K), the Law of Attraction, Manifestation, Mind over Matter - all of these are concepts that have captured the human imagination since the beginning of recorded history.

Using the power of the mind to manifest beneficial outcomes, fulfill nonharmful desires, change the experience of reality, and create a conscious journey through life—these principles are as ancient as civiliation itself.

Your metaphor may vary, but the thing itself is the same.

The Practice of Magic (or Magick)

The practice of magic is based on the principle that everything in the universe is connected, and the more we learn of the universe’s nature, the more we learn how vast this interconnectivity is. In 2022, a team of scientists received the Nobel Prize for proving that entanglement of particles at the quantum level is not just theoretical. These recipeients were building on the work of previous cosmologists, including Werner Heisenberg, Eugene Wigner & John Bell.

While no scientific “proof” exists (yet) that our nervous systems can consciously choose to connect with everything else in the universe, it bears noting that vast amounts of public resourcesl have historically been dedicated to secret military and intelligence research into topics related to this principle, and the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia continues its inquiry into the nature and potentials of consciousness.

The practice of magic involves the use of meditation, focus, visualization, breathing techniques, sensory alteration, rituals, spells, and other techniques to harness universal, connected energy and direct it towards a specific outcome.

Magic is not about controlling others or bending the universe to our will, but about aligning ourselves with the natural flow of energy and using it to create positive change in our lives.

One of the key principles of magic is creative imagination or creative visualization. When we dedicate time and concentration to conceptualizing/imagining/visualizing something, we create a mental model (sometimes visual, or in the case of people with aphantasia, sometimes not)—this model becomes a part of our consciousness.

This mental image can then be used to focus further energy and deploy the principle of “like “

For example, if we want to attract abundance, we might imagine ourselves surrounded by material plenty, comfort, and prosperity. This mental image becomes an aligning force that:

  • draws the energetic frequency of wealth towards us

  • pushes us away from things that would drain/repel wealth

  • creates a point of focus to return to when we become momentarily distracted or destabilized

The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is one shorthand way of stating this principle. According to teachings that follow this principle, our thoughts and emotions have a vibrational frequency that attracts similar energies into our lives.

Therefore (adherents suggest) if we focus most of our time and energy on “negative” thoughts and emotions, we will experience/attract mostly negative experiences and outcomes. On the other hand, if we focus on positive thoughts and emotions, we will experience/attract positive experiences and outcomes.

The Law of Attraction is not just about positive thinking, though. It is also about taking aligned action being prepared to receive the energy of the universe. This might involve setting clear intentions, visualizing desired outcome, and even foreseeing and avoiding obstacles that may get in the way ofachieving our goals.

Mind over Matter

The principle of Mind over Matter is based on the idea that the mind has the power to influence the physical world in concrete ways—sometimes even without our conscious attention. According to this principle, our thoughts and beliefs can affect our health, our relationships, and our environment.

When we mindfully focus our thoughts and intentions on a specific outcome, then, we can help the forces of nature to work to create a physical reality attuned with those thoughts.

One of the key principles of Mind over Matter is the power of belief. When we believe that something is possible, we open ourselves up to the possibility of achieving it—even if it’s difficult, even if there are setbacks.

This might involve letting go of beliefs and negative self-generated feedback loops that can harm us. By cultivating a constructive, self-accepting, self-advocating, self-nurturing mindset that embraces possibility, we can harness the power to create a reality that reflects our full potential.

Manifestation? Same thing, different syllables.

The principles behind the practice of magic, Law of Attraction, Manifestation, Creative Visualization, Prayer, Mind over Matter: all based on the idea that we can tap into the energy of the universe to create positive change in our lives.

The universe—or God, or your deity name(s) of choice—won’t do all the work and heavy lifting for you, but asking for a boost and continuing to revisit the goal can reinforce your own actions and keep them in full alignment with your highest, best self’s aim.
